Kudos

Done with school, woot woot! I should be more excited but I don't know yet if I passed the class that would make or break my stats minor. Ha... yah. But either way, I am done! And employed!
I just finished a 12 hour shift and my 3rd day (night) at a residential treatment center and school for troubled and at risk teenage girls.

To fill you in on the comments I've received from the girls AND staff...
"Can I ask you a personal question? How old are you?"
"I didn't know if you were staff or a new patient."
"I am fourteen and look older than you!"
"You make me feel tall."
"I was like, this girl is old enough to be working here?"

I am 22. and going to bed.
Goodnight! (morning)

Taking a Break

I had 1 test yesterday and have 3 tests this weekend so I really shouldn't be on my blog... but it's good to take breaks.
Here's what I have learned through this crazy, study cramming week:
  1. You can't warm up egg yolk in the microwave; the egg will just cook.
  2. While reading a study about the heart rate of tree shrews, I first learned that trees have heart rates. I thought this was cool until I found out tree shrews were animals. So from my Analysis of Variance homework, I learned that a tree shrew is a type of animal and plants, in fact, do not have heart rates.
  3. 77 days left in the semester. We calculated that in my stats computer programming class. By we I mean everyone in the class but me, because I don't know how to do anything on a computer besides scroll through Pinterest and type run-on sentences for my blog posts. The only thing I have learned in that class is that if the license for a program on your computer is expired, you can just change the date on your computer to last year or whenever the program wasn't expired, then it will work. This counts for learning something though, right?

Oh and I thought this was funny too... :)

Gets me every time.

Cool

Christmas is probably the only thing that ever gets me in the mood to cook,
bake more like it.
A Christmas breakfast back home left my parents with tons of left over bananas,
so I snatched them hoping I could make banana bread at my apartment.
Because I'd made it before under the supervision of my mom and it was pretty easy and turned out delicious, I thought just maybe I could do it by myself.
I followed the recipe and directions perfectly and the dough tasted great.
After the ingredients and mixing instructions, the recipe read:
Bake at 325 for 1 hr, 10 min.
Cook for 10 min in pan, then turn on to rack.
Like a pro, I put the bread in the oven and set the timer for 10 minutes so I would know when to flip the bread on to the rack and cook it outside of the pan.
After 10 minutes the bread was no where near solid enough to take out of the pan and put it on the rack.
After a confused debate with my roommates, we put it in the oven for another 10 minutes... still not solid enough.
I was panicked because I didn't want the edges of the bread to burn.
Gavin, being the creative man that he is, flipped the bread from the pan onto a cookie tray, so we could cook it upside down on the tray instead of the rack.
No, the bread didn't rise.
It looked really funny, but tasted good so we were satisfied.
The next day, I asked my mom what I should have done. I didn't remember how I had gotten the bread from the pan to the rack the last time I made the bread.
She just laughed.
There is a MAJOR typo in that recipe.
COOL for 10 minutes, then turn on to the rack.
After you COOK the bread for 1 hr, 10 min, the bread needs to COOL.
If your banana bread ends up looking like a brick,
you did it wrong.

Creative

Guy: I really like your nails, they are awesome!
Me: Thanks! hehe
Guy: Did you do them yourself?
Me: No, actually my boyfriend did them for me.
Guy: Hmm he must be... creative?

We were attempting this, but in holiday colors
Not bad, eh?

P.S. so what if I have ugly hands?

Slacking

There is plenty I could be doing...
Plenty I should be doing...
But none of it has to be done right this instant.
Am I going to do it?
I'll let you figure that out.

Here's my deepest thoughts and emotions of the moment, since it has been a while since I have filled you in.
Footloose is inspiring. From Julianne's body to the music. I will be watching some of those scenes over and over again. Possibly while standing up, wearing cowboy boots and a sweat band.
Besides that, I love my church, family, friends, roommates, boyfriend, team, and my new sweaters (if you look at the link, look at the white sweater and gold necklace behind the weird shirt).
So despite the fact that nothing too new is happening and I am just hanging in there until Thanksgiving break, I'm doin good!

Expectations vs. Reality

I could go really deep with this title but due to the 2 week long hilarious Facebook chain message between my lacrosse teammates, here is what you're getting:

It started with this...

And evolved to this...

Then went to this...

And I just found this...

Raindrops on Roses

A while ago, I was wandering through Urban Outfitters,
I came across this little treasure:
It's just a feel good book with lists of things that everyone loves and no one acknowledges.
So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I've written down my own list of awesome...
Happy little moments that make life that much better.
  • Finding money in your pocket
  • Running in the rain
  • Perfectly toasted toast
  • Mail- real mail, not spam
  • Reading cute texts that you have locked in your phone
  • Winning- games, contests, luck, or skill. Winning is awesome!
  • When it stays light at night because of the snow
  • Serving someone
  • Inside jokes
  • Hearing from an old friend
  • Prayers
  • Cooking something all the way through without burning it
  • Songs you loved as a kid/teenager
  • Waking up to no alarm
  • Laughing until you cry

Taking it Personally

Technology hates me.
1. My laptop crashed a couple weeks ago, so I have been in the process of getting a new one, setting it up, copying all my documents, and that sort of fun stuff.
2. My DVD player responds to everyone but me. I press the play button and the DVD pauses. For everyone else it plays.
But last night I conquered it!
Or so I thought.
Turns out all I did was push my luck of electronics for the week.

Today...
I woke up and my phone wouldn't turn on or charge. I took it to the AT&T store, told them my dilemma, and the guy turned it right on. Embarrassing.
Every Monday and Wednesday morning class, we have an iclicker quiz. (An iclicker is a little remote with options A-D to click the answer to the quiz question that appears on the screen.) I pressed the power button on my iclicker and it wouldn't turn on. I double pressed it, it wouldn't turn on. I pressed it hard. No go. I pressed it soft. No luck. I looked at the guy next to me, asked him to turn my iclicker on, he pressed the power button and handed it back to me.
Thanks man.

At what point is this no longer funny?

(This isn't me but it looks like I may not be the only one???)

The Howl

The Howl is the biggest halloween party in Utah, held at USU. So for the past 4 years, after our last-saturday-of-the-month game against West Minster, I have headed up to Logan.
But do I go to the Howl?
Nope!
I love Halloween!

This year, Matt got us free skating and bowling at the fun center.

Then we followed up with the tradish we started last year... scaring people.
I don't know how it started. But basically what we do is put our hair in our faces, hang over a rail by campus, walk with a limp, and jump out at kids walking home from the party.

Freaking blast and a half!
Dear Maddy, you're the coolest person I know!

Person: They're drunk!
Maddy: Funny thing is, we're not.

Person: Are you ok?
Madi: Eeeeeh! Eeeeeh!

Why is She Not Married?

If you catch the flowers, you're soon to go...
Isn't that how it works?

"Bree's bouquet"

Xanni's bouquet

Emily's bouquet

Charolette's bouquet

Maybe she's not married yet because,
Despite all our plans, plots, and practice,
She has never actually really caught a real boquet at a real wedding.
C'mon Mad, Be Aggressive!

When the Poop Hit the Fan

I was going to post about that awesome BYU-Utah game (the word awesome was a sarcastic one). Lucky for you, now I have something else that will probably be a little more exciting to read.
Most of you know I have kind of been dating two guys. In a very little nutshell, I was dating one guy and writing another on his mission. The missionary came home about a month ago and I have been spending time with both the guys to see what could happen. It wasn't fair but it wasn't dishonest either because they have both known about each other.
Needless to say they don't necessarily like each other.
So today I was just chillin on the couch with G and guess what happened!
R came walking through my door.
Most awkward situation of my life. Hands down.
I introduced them, and it was civil. R showed me some pictures of his weekend trip then left and G was not too happy.
That's my story.
Good times.

Our true character shows when unexpected situations arise (the quote Brent posted on my wall in light of the situation).

Provo Words

Mom: I should have been more honest when I was dating Dad. If I could do it again I would be more honest, not completely honest, just a little more.
Honesty is the best policy... at least that's what I've heard.

Morganne (to Megan): No offense... but sometimes I get annoyed when I'm talking to you.

Nate & Austen:
Zane. He's going to rule a country someday. "Hi I'm Zane, I drive a Harley.".. Way better than "Hi I'm Austen, I drive a Honda civic."
He ran a tight ship. She runs a tight ship also.
We just became your gay friends, huh?

Marie: Amanda! Hey do you have a nick-name or something?

Adam speaks his own language that only Blake understands.

Smiths doesn't sell alcohol on Sundays.

Brother Waite: There is always a wilderness before the Promised Land.

The Cutest Video I Ever Did See

I had to share this! I don't follow American Idol really, but I guess he was a contestant whose fiance was in some sort of traumatic accident. Most of you have probably seen this before, but I just found it on someone's facebook. I don't think I could ever get sick of it! Chris Medina- What are Words.

Competition

So I really don't like my English class. I don't like it because I like writing and I don't want to know if anyone else doesn't like my writing. Today in class we had to write a short little story, then everyone voted on the best one. If I would have known it was a competition, I would have put a little more heart into it. I didn't win.
Do you know what else I'm taking as a competition? Maddy made police beat at USU. I am quite jealous.

Recent funnies:

I was singing "tonight" to myself. "We're dancing on top of the Hollywood sign."
My 7 year old sister proceeded to correct me on my top 40's lyrics. It really goes "dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign."

Mom (texting my brothers while they were at a hotel in Vegas): What have you been up to today?
Jake: playing hide-and-seek
Mom (wondering how much damage in the hotel she was going to pay for): What do you mean hide and seek?
Jake: I turned the lights off and it took like 5 minutes for Jordan to find me. There are so many cool places to hide in this room!
Jordan is 17, Jake is 15.

I was compared to chocolate cake- as in really good, but bad for you.

Yesterday Hillary and I were playing lacrosse in the courtyard. That turned into soccer with more people which evolved into Taco Tuesday with even more people. This guy, Rico, drove us to Taco Tuesday at Rubio's in his topless jeep. I love jeeps but my hair was going everywhere and was a mess! I asked if anyone had a hair elastic and Rico just pulled out a bag of hair elastics for me. He said he learned that if he had a jeep, he should probably invest in some elastics too. FPOD.

This is the Way I Live

Isn't there some scripture that talks about not putting new wine in old bottles?
Well that can be applied to laptops.
Don't try new hardware with old computers.
It just won't work.

I keep my laptop in the hall, between my room and the bathroom, on the floor.
Why?
Because there is no table or chairs in the hall.
Because the apartments' new wifi doesn't work on my laptop
and the cable outlet is in my room.
Because my laptop only works while plugged in
and the closest power outlet is in the bathroom.

Dear Summer 2011,

I appreciate that you have been full of good times like Angels Landing and mattress surfing, It's its and going fishing. I've gotten lost, slept in, eaten at Menchies too many times, and rafted in multiple places. You've allowed me to read self-betterment books, a lot of blogs, and a lot of pinterest. You've kept me busy with bridal showers, weddings, and waterfalls. 7 peaks, Gepettos, rockslides, fetaling, nude high heels, and being done with Monday emails are also great characteristics of you that I have enjoyed. You've kept up the traditions of making scenes and nude lake. You almost spanked me with a train but I am not mad about that because I got to go to Alabama, see lots of cousins, and go hiking and camping.
But I want you to know that though I have lived you to the fullest since the end of April, I have not pushed you to your limits quite yet. There is a lot I need before September 21st so if you could stay warm til then, it would really help me out. I am also begging you for a little bit of October too.
Either way, you've been a blast. I just want to keep having a blast. Thanks.
Love,
Madilynn.

Upgrade.

Anyone remember my old phone Little Blackie? Well it died about the same time my sister got an upgrade on her phone, so I got my sister's old one. (Funny how I get all the hand-me-downs and I'm the oldest. It's been happening for quite some time now, you should see my iPod.) Finally I was rewarded an upgrade so I went to the AT&T store on Tuesday.

Karl was at the front desk when I showed up. F-pod.
1. His name was Karl.
2. He asked for my autograph instead of my signature.
3. He hooked me up! $60 phone for $25 off and $50 rebate. Sold me on the $50 insurance for $25 off and he gave me a free phone cover. COVER+ INSURANCE + PHONE = $10!!

The funny part of the story:
I handed him my American Express to pay the $60. He took it and in a surprised voice said "American Express? That's fancy!" The thing is though, it wasn't fancy. It's one of those free ones. I responded with "How old do you think I am?"
His answer "Well now I'm going to guess 17. At first I thought you were my daughter's age."
Yeah I am 21 but I don't go a week in my life without being told I look young. People always tell me it's a good thing too though. Hopefully one day it will be.

p.s. His daughter is 15.

Grown Up

What am I, 5?
I came home from work,
Dinner wasn't fixed,
No one around to make it.
So what'd I eat?
Cake.
I'm moving out this week.
How's that going to go over?

The Boy Who Lived

I can say I grew up with Harry Potter, right?
I mean, when he was 11 I was 9, but I think I read the first book when I was 10, so we were practically the same age.
And when he was 11 in the movie, I was 11 in real life.
and I only read 6 out of the 7 books but 6/7 isn't bad and I believe I am a fan.
All I know is that when I was watching the last movie, I was so nervous. I knew that if Harry died, I would cry.
Not the kind of cry when you are watching a sad movie and you are like poor girl's heart got broken, here's a few tears,
or for the friends and family who lost someone in Hollywood,
or the 'what if that happened to me'? cry.
I would have cried because I was rooting for Harry and I didn't want Harry to die because I've grown up with him.
and I wanted him to beat Voldemort,
and I was so nervous for Harry.
and I love Hermione and Ron so I didn't want them to lose a friend either.
and I was so pumped when the last movie was coming to an end,
but then the movie ended and I wasn't so pumped anymore.
Because the series is over.
I can read the books again and I probably will, but it's still all over.
And how awesome will it be to read the books with my kids and watch the movies with them and tell them that this came out while I was growing up?
And maybe if I'm lucky...
one of my children will be admitted to Hogwarts.
